Who We Are
A 501(c)(3) charity founded by bestselling author Mitch Albom in 2006, SAY Detroit provides pathways to success for Detroiters in need with a focus on solving learning, health care and housing challenges.
It also supports local partner charities with funds raised at a live annual Radiothon held in December on WJR (760 AM). Many of the volunteers greeting you as restaurant host volunteers are from these local partner organizations. Please save the date for this year's Radiothon on December 11.
SAY Detroit serves 4,000 individuals and families each year, driving equitable and thriving communities. Just since 2024, we have proudly:
Unveiled the Kelly and Matthew Stafford & Friends Education Center, a 15,000-sq-ft expansion to the SAY Detroit Play Center, resulting in increased programming and enrollment to the after-school program;
Completed more than 4,000 patient visits to the SAY Detroit Family Health Clinic, which relocated to a larger, more modern facility in the spring of 2025. Its First Year program helped more than 3 dozen new and expectant mothers, providing free bassinets, education and other resources.filling more than 5,700 prescriptions. While the clinic accepts patients regardless of their ability to pay, 60% are uninsured;
Provided 250+ patients 50-60 lbs of organic fruits and vegetables through a partnership with a local urban garden;
Working Homes/Working Families continued its efforts in neighborhoods around SAY Play, with 2 program families awarded refurbished homes.
Repaired, built and donated nearly 1,000 bikes to children and adults in need of transportation through Mi-Cycle;
Better Together held over 30 events for at-risk youth in Detroit schools.
Completed 1400+ volunteer hours;
We cannot make this impact alone.
